The USGS lake level gauge, moved to the Little Glen Boat launch and damaged by the ice this past winter, was replaced on April, 21, 2009.  We will continue to use it until the new bridge is completed and new gauging established.

The 2008 Glen Lake/Crystal River Water Sharing Plan

The 2008 Water Sharing Plan (Ice out until winter dam setting) – This chart depicts the operating Water Sharing Plan from ice out until the initial winter 2008/2009 is made, i.e., the minimum, flow required in the Crystal River for corresponding Glen Lake Level. Also shown is the minimum relationship we had to adhere to in 2006 & 2007 as well as 2005. The original algorithm we received from the court is also shown. As you can see there have been improvements each year. We will continue to fine tune the algorithm as we gain more knowledge and gather more supporting data. In addition to these Water Sharing Plan changes for 2008, we were given authorization to run the river at a 23 cfs minimum in the fall of 2007. This minimum flow increased to 30 cfs as we moved into the winter. As you can see on the chart this 30 cfs minimum is approved for use throughout the 2008 boating season. We also have a winter minimum of 40 cfs when there is danger that the river might freeze solid. This 40 cfs minimum will be necessary during extremely long cold periods. All of these changes were agreed to by the Technical Committee in an attempt to raise the lake level from its extreme low levels experienced in late summer/early fall of 2007.

The major contributor to our recent low water level is the significant drought being experienced in our area. In 2007 we experienced the lowest precipitation in our recorded history. This follows seven to eight years of lower than average precipitation. Recent data is depicted in the attached graph.

The Water Level Committee takes lake level readings on a regular basis, weather and ice permitting. These readings are from a USGS supplied and calibrated gage located on the Glen Lake Narrows Bridge. The Committee also takes periodic readings in and around the Crystal River Dam, especially before and after a dam adjustment. These readings will be posted to this page on a regular basis. The monthly reports are are available here in a pdf format.
