The “Pledge to Protect” is for anyone — riparian, watershed resident, or regular visitor — who wants to become a Glen Lake Guardian and advance the effort to protect and preserve the Glen Lake-Crystal River Watershed.

As you read the pledge form, consider what you already do for the watershed and pick items that will be new for you for your focus in 2018. GLA uses the honor system, and we know that what you check is what you will put into action.

Icy lakeGLA would like to celebrate your commitment by listing your name as a Glen Lake Guardian in our newsletters and on the GLA website. You may choose to keep your anonymity by checking the appropriate box at the bottom of the pledge form.

The current pledge form goes through 2016. A future pledge forms will be created for 2017-2018 and will have different and new best practices to choose from. This will encourage Glen Lake Guardians to repeat their action plans each year (becoming part of your lifestyle) and then add best practices as the program grows.

Are you already doing everything on the pledge form? Plenty of other ideas are available on our Stewardship Checklist.

sailboatAfter making a two-year pledge to protect, you will receive a Guardian decal that we encourage you to display in a highly visible location, such as the back window or bumper of your car. Displaying it will demonstrate your commitment to best practices and encourage others to ask about the program and, hopefully, join.

In the near future, the GLA plans to invite businesses and other organizations to become Glen Lake Guardians, encouraging them do their part to protect our watershed. There will also be opportunities to become a Glen Lake Guardian Certified Property. This is being introduced in 2016.
