Education and outreach

An important part of our work includes advancing environmental education with the goal of maintaining and improving awareness and stewardship of the Glen Lake/Crystal River Watershed.

Our educational activities range from participating in local events such as the Glen Arbor Farmers’ Market to speaking at state-wide symposiums such as the Michigan Inland Lakes Convention. In addition, we offer one-on-one homesite consultations to riparians, as well as educational boat tours on Glen Lake to the general public. But, the best ways to stay informed include signing up for our monthly email newsletter, following us on Facebook and Instagram, and becoming a member in order to receive our annual report and attend our annual meeting.

Monthly E-Newsletters

Our monthly “e-Blast” newsletter is delivered to your email and contains a wealth of timely information about what’s happening throughout the watershed. Sign up today, and stay informed!

Discovery Boat Cruises

The Discovery Boat program is a one-of-a kind opportunity to learn about what makes the Glen Lake/Crystal River Watershed so special. Join our watershed biologist on a fun and educational hands-on boat tour. You’ll learn how area lakes and dunes were formed, what influences water quality, how to keep the watershed healthy, and much more!

Homesite Consultations

The Glen Lake Association offers on-site consultations for riparians. During a consultation, we will perform a walk-through of your property. We’ll pay particular attention to your shoreline and streambank, landscape, property drainage, and well and septic locations. After listening to your questions and concerns, we will make recommendations, including watershed-friendly landscape ideas. We can also refer you to service providers or contractors if needed.

Annual State of the Watershed Address

Every year at our annual member meeting, our watershed biologists presents the “state of the watershed.” This presentation contains a snapshot of the health of our area lakes and streams, as well as trends and future developments. If you’d like to attend the next meeting, please join the Glen Lake Association!

local Events

As a member of the Glen Lake community, we participate in local events in order to educate the public about our work. We’re always willing to answer questions and provide tips for keeping the area lakes, streams and groundwater clean and healthy. Check out our upcoming events!
