  1. Mr. DuPont, i am an owner on Little Glen (Day Forest) and run a real estate development company in suburban Chicago. Both my wife, Kelly and I grew up in Saginaw. I just recently heard about the proposed expansion of the Narrows Marina. The proposed expansion is obviusly not just to satisfy demand, it is to substantially increase profits. It is no surprise to anyone there are many that would like a slip on Glen Lake. One of the many reasons we (and others) were attracted to Glen lake and purchased homes is because of the limited access and the fact it is not a busy lake. The expansion of this marina, with the lack of parking as it is, is a horrible idea. I read about some shuttle service being part of the petitioner’s proposal. We all know that this will not reduce traffic…the slip owner will drop off his family, coolers, etc, then turn around and cross the bridge to park. When they leave, he will go get the car and drive it back to the marina to pick up his family and gear. There is a reason the marina is small and there are few slips….there is no parking and it is located at the lake’s busiest point. He should have factored this in when he bought it…I do when i purchase someting for development. Finally, any notion that this will reduce the number of users of the boat launch is ridiculous. if he is claiming that, then perhaps parking on Day Forest should be strctly prohibited, and part of his proposal. Thanks for all that you do for the Association and Glen Lake.

  2. We would like to be in the parade this year. Can you give us information on how to register for the parade in Glen Arbor?

  3. Are there any plans to take care of the swimmers itch? We know a lot of people that have gotten it on the east side of the lake and in little glen. My 2 year old son went in the water for 10 mins we dried him off real well as always and now he is covered in red dots. We are the most beautiful place in America, but people can’t even use the water. Please let us know if anything is going to be done or if it’s going to be this way for the rest of the summer. Thank you

    • Unfortunately, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) will no longer grant the GLA a permit to trap & relocate Mergansers which was thought to be our best strategy for reducing the amount of Swimmer’s Itch. We were very aggressive this spring in using our only means of encouraging the Mergansers to live and raise their broods off of the Glen lakes by scaring them with loud noise devices. We continue to use this method whenever we receive reports about the location of Mergansers on the lake. Although the GLA does not officially endorse it, there is a product called Swimmers Itch Guard sold at the Prescription shop in Glen Arbor that has proved to be effective for some people. To learn more about Swimmer’s Itch, please click on the Swimmers Itch link on the left sidesbar of our Home Page.

    • Yes, our plans to reduce swimmer’s itch continue to be centered on two main activities. First, we use a common merganser harassment program during the spring and fall to minimize the time they spend on the lake or reduce or eliminate any loafing on any particular shoreline in any significant numbers. Second, we see promise in those who use “itch guard” – a topical cream that may reduce or eliminate swimmer’s itch. However, it only works if you use it according to the directions on the container. It has been sold at the local pharmacy in Glen Arbor and many reports indicate that it has been effective in protecting people from swimmer’s itch.

  6. Hello Sallyanne,
I am the Program Coordinator at the Crystal Lake Watershed Association and we are planning for staffing of our new Boat Wash starting next spring. Was wondering if I could get some insight from you rather than reinvent the wheel?
    Thanks
    Ron

    • Hello Ron,
I am forwarding your request to Dennis Becker & Sallyanne. Dennis has been the board member in charge of the boat washing program and is the current chairperson of our Water Quality Committee.
