Water Quality Monitoring on Brooks Lake

Laura Weisen with Hydrolab.

This is Laura Wiesen performing water quality monitoring with the Hydrolab on Brooks Lake in a rowboat borrowed by Emery Blanksma who lives on the lake. Temperature, ph, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and turbidity are measured every two weeks throughout the year. THe GLA Water Quality team began taking data from this lake in 2006. The overall quality of the lake is reported as “good”.

Beauty & the Beast

The Oooooohs and the Ahhhhhs of 4th of July fireworks, so pretty to behold. But, unfortunately, they leave a trail of debris. There were no large fireworks set off in Tamarack Cove, but we certainly enjoyed the close-up view from those who did set them off across from us. The next day, our daughter and grandson noticed all of the debris along our shoreline and 7 year old Robby wanted to clean up our beach so it would be safe for the ducks. This is what he picked up in a short period of time.

He thinks we should tell others to check their beach and help keep our lake and shoreline clean. So, you have been asked. Please help and join in with his efforts.

Enjoying the Parade
