GLA Recipient of Grant from the Tribe of Ottawa-Chippewa Indians

Leelanau Clean Water received a 2% grant from the Tribe of Ottawa-Chippewa Indians for $9,930 in February 2011.  Four out of the five activities covered by this grant money will directly benefit the Glen Lake-Crystal River Watershed.

One of the most visible is an upgrade to the boat wash at the DNRE boat ramp on Little Glen Lake to a 140-degree-power-wash to replace the present cold water power wash system, providing a technological update of this 25 year old boat wash system. (Another boat wash location is also supported by this grant).

Other activities covered by the grant include a Clean Boat, Clean Water Workshop; an Invasive Aquatic Plant Survey Workshop; and updated Invasive Species Signs at road ends of the major lakes in Leelanau County.

This grant was written by Sarah Litch, Glen Lake Water Quality Co-chair and Chair of Leelanau Clean Water; and Trudy Galla, Leelanau Planning and Community Development Director.

We certainly owe a debt of gratitude to  Sarah and Trudy for their hard work on writing and submitting the grant and to the Tribe of Ottawa-Chippewa Indians for this generous grant. Thank-you!
