Work on the M-22 bridge over the Glen Lake narrows is continuing, and soon, the new structure will start to take shape. Piling for the north abutment has all been driven, and work on the footings should begin early next week. The contractor for the project, Davis Construction of Lansing, will also continue working on removing the old bridge on the south approach.
Boat traffic between the two lakes will be maintained as much as is safely possible, and Davis is committed to having the channel open for weekends. Navigational closures lasting less than 24 hours will be posted at least one day in advance, at the DNR Access Site on Little Glen Lake, the Glen Arbor Township Hall, the Empire Township Hall, and at the bridge site. Closures lasting more than 24 hours require two day notice. Because OSHA regulations prohibit carrying loads directly over people, boat traffic will be suspended during any time when crane work is above the channel.
